Issues: Immigration

Most of us are descended from a proud tradition of immigration to this country. That being said, 21st Century America is a very different nation than when Europeans first reached her shores.

We now face a slate of concerns related to Homeland Security, National Security and Economic Security that are tied up with modern immigration issues. We can't separate them out, and we can't ignore them any longer.
The powers that be in Congress have let illegal immigration go on for far too long.

Now they're proposing immigration amnesty: a slap in the face to District 1 residents who work for a living.

To appease their special interest donors who employ cheap labor, our Congress is stealing our security by allowing open borders. They're stealing jobs by allowing illegal labor to flourish. They're stealing our economy and kids' futures by importing overpopulation, cultural destruction and crime. And they're stealing a social safety net that functions for seniors and the very poor by allowing it to be overrun with immigrants -- whose labor output comes nowhere near paying for the family sizes they're importing.

Why are they punishing honest Americans trying to find a job in a Depression? The last round of amnesty would have doubled the number of guest workers and tripled the number of immigrants granted lawful permanent residency. How does that help unemployment? It's going to make a job that much harder to find.

The ongoing influx is just worsening crime and adding to the welfare rolls.
Do we really want gang members and criminals permanently living in our neighborhoods and collecting welfare benefits that are supposed to be going to the needy?

Solutions are simple, and should have happened a long time ago.

First, secure our borders. Build a fence if necessary. At the very least, make sure adequate policing forces are stationed in areas where American citizens are dying trying to protect and defend their homes and families.

Next, jail employers who hire illegals. Believe me folks, it will only take a few examples to cut off the jobs enticement.

Stop the abuse of H1-B specialty worker and student visas. These programs must be carefully scrutinized and policed. Specialty worker visas are being used to import workers who end up living in metal shacks and making dollars a day. Student visas are a classic route for terrorists to loaf around our country planning attacks. No more taking advantage of the system.

Finally, stop unconstitutional Federal attacks against states where local police are implementing immigration enforcement and deportation policies. They work. They protect Americans. It's our Constitutional RIGHT to protect our communities.

I support legal routes to citizenship. But it's time those taking advantage of the system are removed before they drain it dry. We simply don't have the resources to be the sole outlet for Third World overpopulation pressures. Let's help them improve their culture, instead of allowing ours to be dragged down with them. Let's teach them to fish.
